Video: Drag Racing in Slow Motion
Tuesday, July 11th, 2006Talk about tyre abuse!
You may have wondered why they often paint a white line on the side of the rear tyres of drag cars. Its so at the end of the run(s) they can see just how much the tyre has twisted under the thousands of horsepower worth of abuse that they cope with on each run. The line starts off straight, on the tyre sidewall from the mag wheel to the outside of the tyre near the tread. After the run, the line tends to be curved, showing the tyre has permanently deformed.
This video gives you a LOT more of an idea as to how and why!
