Thursday, August 30th, 2007

Excuse the very rough photos…done in a mad rush late at night!

No photos of the camera itself and the battery for obvious reasons. Will take some once I have a second camera handy.

Hitachi invents small 3D displays with potential for use in next gen 3D cell phones.

Hitachi 3d phone display

Sending friends small movies shot on cell phones is not uncommon in Japan. But thanks to Hitachi, they may soon become completely three dimensional.

Hitachi has developed a lightweight 3D display that has potential uses including in cell phones and other small devices.

At the moment, the prototype weighs 1kg and uses a liquid crystal display that is below a pyramid of mirrors to produce a stereoscopic display.

“It’s very small and portable,” Rieko Otsuka of Hitachi’s Advanced Research Laboratory said today.

Thanks to its small size and light weight, one of its first uses is expected to be at schools to show students museum pieces, so they will appear as if they are standing upright in front of students.

Otsuka expects to put the device to further use.

“I’d like to see the technology eventually applied to mobile phones, so people could see images three-dimensionally from their handsets,” she said.

iPhone will “not revolutionize market”

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

iPhone

Evolutionary? Yep. Revolutionary? Nope.

An interesting report from ABI Research claims that the Apple iPhone will not revolutionize the smartphone market. The report states that although the iPhone will have an impact on the market, one thing for certain is that the product is not intended to be an enterprise device, and will more likely affect the consumer market.

The news comes after Apple and sole iPhone operator AT&T took hits to share prices as initial sales were below expectations. ABI forecasts that the global smartphone market segment will grow from 218 million units in 2007 to 426 million units in 2012.

Top Gear’s Jeremy Clarkson and James May undergo face transplants!

Monday, August 6th, 2007

Well you heard it here first!

In a shock to the motoring community, Top Gear’s Jeremy Clarkson and co-host James May have undergone face transplants – using each other as donors.

What has us stumped is trying to work out who is worse off.

Earlier today Clarkson was seen driving at 10 miles per hour whilst chewing hard gums and smoking a joint. May was last seen pelting fruit at a nunnery.
